CHOOSING THE RIGHT YOGA CLASS FOR YOU
With so many yoga teachers around, it may be difficult, especially for a beginner, to choose the right yoga class that best suits them. The following are a few guidelines for choosing a yoga class that’s right for you.
CHOOSE A STYLE OF YOGA THAT SUITS YOU.
Most teachers will be happy to give a new student a ‘trial’ class before asking the student to commit for a course. This will give you the opportunity to see for yourself if the style of yoga and the teachers style of teaching will suit you.
CHOOSE A TEACHER YOU LIKE
The student – teacher relationship is much more than a commercial one. Make sure you study yoga with someone that you can trust and respect.
CHOOSE YOUR TEACHER CAREFULLY.
Find out how long a potential teacher has been practicing yoga. Find out who they have trained with and for how long they have trained. Make sure that they are still practicing at least three times a week. Find out if they are still studying. Someone who has not studied yoga for at least three years should not call themselves a teacher. Training as a yoga teacher requires a lot of effort and dedication. Some organizations have tried to train “yoga teachers” in a few months. This can not be achieved and can be dangerous. Reputable yoga associations have a minimum requirement of two years training. Some trained teachers stop studying once they qualify. This goes against the philosophy of yoga. A good teacher owes it to their students to attend regular classes and seminars with senior teachers.
There is a saying that to be a teacher, you need
1. A teacher
2. A practice,
3. A love and knowledge of the subject that you teach
4.Students!
